Trash the Dress!

When your bride also happens to be a CrossFit Coach and you ask her to climb a tree, she doesn’t even bat an eye. She hikes up her dress and hoists herself up! Not only is Robyn strong enough to pull herself up into huge trees, she is an absolute beauty to photograph, with a dress that fits her like a dream. Although this session technically falls into the category of “Trash the Dress” no dress was permanently damaged in the making of these photographs. Whether you’re looking to actually trash your dress by swimming in the ocean or frolicking in a mud puddle or you simply want some photos that are slightly more risky than the ones you took on your wedding day, photos that might make your dress a bit more sandy or dirty, without actually damaging your dress, Trash the Dress sessions are some of my favourite to shoot!

And Robyn’s was no different, from climbing the wild fruit trees to balancing on the ocean rocks to running through the forest, we had a great time one evening during sunset in East Sooke Regional Park. There is an abundance of beautiful parks with incredible beaches, golden fields, amazing mountains or beautiful orchards all over the south island, and East Sooke Park has almost everything you could want in a backdrop! It’s one of my faviourite places to take couples, families or bridal parties and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to take Robyn there for this shoot after her wedding day 🙂

I think this is a great idea - what a fun way for a bride to enjoy her dress in a way that is as individual as she is. The wedding was beautiful and all the formal photos were awesome but this just ads a more personal touch. So much money to spend on a dress for possibly only one day. This way there is more than one days use out of the dress - besides why save it for your daughter - who knows what the styles will be then. I SAY TOTALLY TRASH IT!!!!!

Thanks Michele, you're so right, it's a great way to extend the enjoyment of a beautiful dress! And we had a lot of fun taking these shots a few weeks after the wedding :)

wow! So cool! I love how unique the pictures are. Such a beautiful representation of an individual's true love on her day that is all about love. You choice of colour and perspective is so refreshing.

Thanks Kristin, it definitely helps having a bride who isn't afraid to climb trees and who didn't mind that I made her run around for most of the session!
